Whether you are packing yourself, or having us take that hassle off your hands, you'll want high quality boxes and other packing materials to protect your belongings. Besides choosing the right mover, using the proper packing materials is next most important step you can take in ensuring your belongings arrive safely.
Don’t settle for cheap moving boxes, or risk damage to your possessions by using non-moving boxes, or cheap alternatives. You’ve worked hard to pay for your possessions and probably have some irreplaceable family heirlooms. Use the proper materials to protect them during the move. Each box could be handled 5-10 times during the move process, plus must endure a ride of up to thousands of miles in a truck. Make sure your items are protected by
using the right packing materials!
The keys to selecting and using the correct packing materials are:
1. Use the correct sized box for the item(s)
a. Filling a medium or large box with books, for instance, creates a safety hazard because the box is not strong enough to hold that much weight, and/or the box is
too heavy to lift safely
2. Don't over-load or under-load the box
a. An overloaded box may burst, and an under-loaded box may allow too much movement of items inside
3. Wrap fragile items in protective bubble wrap or blank newsprint paper prior to boxing
4. Seal both ends of the box with a high quality packing tape
a. Use a tape designed to adhere properly to the box material AND provide the strength to keep the box sealed
5. Label two adjacent sides of each box with the room where the items will eventually be placed
a. This will help during the unloading process and minimize your need to move boxes later or “hunt” for what you are looking for
b. Another helpful tip is to label the box with what major items are in that box
